Board Game “Sunship”
Sunship evolved out of a father-son project into a beautiful handcrafted game combining computational thinking, art, and strategy. All designs, playing cards, illustrations, and rules are lovingly executed. The game combines the imagination of an 8 year old with ideas about mathematics, astronomy, and art from his father. The spirit of this collaboration is evident throughout the game making it both accessible and challenging for kids and adults.
Sunship is a game designed for 2-4 players. The board is divided into 8 orbits and an impenetrable asteroid belt. The orbits are further divided into regions of varying economic and strategic value. Additionally, there are 5 transit hubs which facilitate jumping between orbits. The object of the game is to eliminate the other players through conquest or, alternatively, to successfully monopolize all transit hubs for an economic victory.
Holding regions of space are the source of income in the game. The value of regions can be increased by constructing and upgrading space stations. To protect valuable regions, force fields may be constructed. Isolating regions behind force fields, however, diminishes their economic output. A player must, therefore, strike a careful balance between security and trade.
Players may attack adjacent regions with their fleets of space ships. There are three types of space ships in Sunship. Combat is played out on special cards on which the placement of space ships is significant. Depending on the type of ship, the player may select difficult to hit positions, cloak their attack, or attack from the rear. The combat system is elegant, versatile, and based on basic bit math.

The Royale February 10, 2018
Jay ‘The Sport’ Jackson dreams of being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. But it’s 1905 and, in the racially segregated world of boxing, his chances are as good as knocked out. Told in six rounds and set in a boxing ring, The Royale is inspired by the story of Jack Johnson, an African American boxer whose quick rise to stardom made him a world-wide phenomenon. But at the height of the Jim Crow era, victory for a black man over a white man posed untold dangers and Jay quickly finds himself fighting for more than just a title. Written by award-winning American writer Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy, Orange is the New Black), Yellow Tree is thrilled to host the regional premiere of this extraordinary new play!
